Consider yourself lucky if you’re old enough to have lived during the mini-trucking era of the late 80’s and early 90’s. These were the days of Aqua Net, Triniere, Connie and who could ever forget Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam.
But if mention of those groups brought a smile to your face then I’m sure you’ll familiar with the mini-truck club, Thee Exotic Ones. Along with The Desirable Ones, and Nu Minis these clubs were some of the OG clubs from the heyday of minitrucking. Sadly, I didn’t get to experience that era, but now that the all these clubs are coming out of retirement it’s giving youngsters like myself the opportunity to witness these machines first hand.
I’ve watched the videos on YouTube, heard the stories from family and friends, but nothing quite compares to watching these min-trucks pull up in formation and start strutting their stuff.
July 31, 2021 marked the one-year anniversary of Thee Exotic Ones club’s comeback into the minitrucking scene and to celebrate they threw a picnic at Schabarum Park in Rowland Heights. I didn’t know what to expect, but my gut instinct was that a club with this status will pull their weight and they did just that. Over 100 trucks pulled up, and the place was jumping.
Try doing that drunk
The lot was filled with Trucks from various different clubs including Island Minis, The Desirable Ones, Nu Minis, Rolling Hard, and many more. The fan favorites include “Little Red Devil” a Nissan truck that graced Lowrider Magazine in 1994 and an orange 720 with a bed that could lean a couple feet away from the frame of the truck. Thanks to the DJ for setting off the vibe blasting Stevie B, Trinere, Egyptian lover and all the throwbacks all day.
