In Azusa, CA, Chica’s Diner played host to a gathering of lowriders and classic cars. All of them were there for Chicas Hot Summer Cruise, and even the high temps couldn’t stop them from packing two city blocks.
Sponsored in part by La Cultura and Bombs Magazine, this is the second event we’ve attended at that same location, and it’s a chill spot. Shade from a row of pine trees offers huge patches of shade, while the fairly empty street made for a good time – definitely a good break from having to deal with cruises held on busy streets.

FAMILY VIBES & A GOOD TIME
Motor Avenue, the long stretch of back street you see in these photos here, is home to little or no traffic, making Chica’s Hot Summer Cruise super chill and laid back – especially when compared to cruises held on busy streets such as those on Whittier or Van Nuys Blvd. Then again, playing Frogger in and out of traffic can be pretty entertaining.

Would have loved to stay longer but had a full schedule ahead of me so I was there only from 1 – 4pm. I’ll definitely have to try attending their next cruise a bit later in the evening because their event times ran from 1 – 11pm. It was cool to see the all stock Impala wagon from Sensations SGV car club. The owners husband, Benjamin, told me, “I got this car for my wife. It was a present to her, and I’m working on finishing off my ’64 so I can cruise with her.”
